Moving home is always an exciting experience, but at the same time it is also known to be the most stressful thing that we ever do. This is largely because there is so much to do and so many things to remember that the closer you get to moving day, the more stressed out you feel. There is always the fear lurking at the back of your mind that you may have forgotten something important.

It can be bad enough if you are only moving across town or to a different part of the UK, but if you are moving abroad there are a lot of other things to consider, not the least of which is that you may have to learn a new language. Furthermore, if you are moving within the UK, it is not impossible to go back to where you came from if you forget something and need to do it there. If you are in a different country, it is well-nigh impossible. You can’t just hop on a plane back to Preston or Burnley at a moment’s notice.

One of the things that you really must do when moving home – wherever you are going to – is to get rid of “stuff” that you have collected over the years and really no longer need. This can be really difficult because we all have a tendency to look at something and think that although we haven’t used it for a while, it “may come in handy”. If that is what you think, then get rid of it. There is no point in paying a removal company such as ourselves to move something that you no longer actually have any use for. This goes for all sorts of things, including clothes. If you haven’t worn something for two years, you are never going to wear it again.

Get Rid

So, get rid. Give it to the charity shop. Hold a garage sale. Give it to friends. Or take it to the tip. Get rid of it! This is doubly true if you are moving abroad and have to pay all the shipping costs.

So, let’s say you are moving to Spain. We are specialists in moving to Spain at Movers International. We go there every week on a regular run, and we go there so often that we actually have two depots there – one in Alicante, and one in Malaga. Now if you are moving a whole house full of furniture and belongings, you will need a removal van solely to yourself.

However, if you get rid of all the “stuff”, you can take advantage of our small removals to Spain just taking a few items on one of our regular runs. So, it is only a part load, and you only pay for the amount of space that you take up on the van. Not only that, but you can take advantage of our free storage here in Preston if you need to. It is often the case when you are moving abroad that your new home is not quite ready to move into yet. If that happens to you, you can use our storage facilities here completely free for four weeks. If you are buying new furniture to take with you, you can also have it delivered direct to us. It makes everything so much simpler, especially if you only need small removals to Spain – or to France, Portugal, Germany, and more.

You also need to make certain that you have got all the documents that you ae going to need in your new country of residence. Things have changed a lot since we left the EU, and there is a lot more paperwork involved in moving there.

There is also the question of packing. If you are moving within the EU, you might want to pack your belongings yourself. However, we always advise using our expert packers to do this because they know the right way to pack things so that they don’t move about in transit. That way, you can be sure that everything will arrive at your new home in tip-top condition.
